STUDENTS MUST BRING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
  • 300 rounds of handgun practice ammo
  • Duty belt with 3 magazines
  • Eye & ear protection
The purpose of this course is to build on fundamentals of basic officer handgun skills while incorporating drills based on use of force decision making.

Student Performance Objectives:
  • Throughout the course students will demonstrate the ability to utilize sound use of force decision making skills to properly identify and effectively engage targets on a live fire range.
  • Throughout the course students will demonstrate acceptable firearms safety and adhere to all range safety protocols as set forth at the beginning of the class.
At the end of this unit the trainee will be able to:
  • Review and discuss agency policy and ILCS 720 ILCS 5/7-5 (Peace Officer’s Use of Force in Making Arrest)
  • Review and discuss relevant 4th Amendment cases:
I.E. Graham v Connor, Tennessee v Garner, Plakas v Drinski
  • Demonstrate and explain the 5 point scan and the importance of accurate and thorough documentation surrounding the UOF.
  • Demonstrate effective combat handgun reloads while stationary and mobile.
