This course is purposed in using personal Emotional Intelligence (EQ) to better the workplace culture and workforce’s worth ethic and process, and to not lessen or demoralize that culture with toxicity, drama, and immaturity. Course participants will discuss false leadership beliefs, examine whether they are predominantly left or right “brain” & how their personal communication style and methods influence their work relationships with subordinates, peers, and Command. The class defines the four EQ cores of self-awareness> self-management skills, social awareness> and relationship management skills. It assesses how EQ leadership should constructively and consistently interact with employee negative behaviors on workplace trust and Department mission, and how Supervisors and Commanders can build far and consistent paths for getting the job done. It discusses methods for building a squad into a work team.

- Left brain (rational) versus right brain (emotional) leaders?
- Self-Assessment: Are you an assertive, aggressive, or passive communicator?
- Four cores of Emotional Intelligence: Self-Awareness> Self-Management skills> Social Awareness> Relationship Management skills
- How introspective self-awareness, steadfast self-management, social cognizance, & relationship EQ contribute to exceptional leadership.
- Using EQ to help grow employee coping skills for common life occurrences that impede employee performance.
- How to use reflective, intuitive, and strategic thinking to strengthen your decisions and coach subordinates. “Begin with the end in mind”.
- Supervisors recognizing and accurately assessing Officer negative behaviors that impact Department mission, squad teamwork, work process, and worth ethic, and how to constructively interface using EQ to turn the behavior around.
