Every year, impaired drivers cause thousands of traffic deaths and injuries.  Law enforcement officers play a leading role in getting these drivers off our nation’s roads, but must be skilled in detecting impaired drivers, administering the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST’s), and describing events (writing reports and giving persuasive testimony).  This course teaches participants those skills.  This 24-hour course consists of class room and hands-on training, which includes practice labs where participants take turns administering the SFST’s to one another and either to volunteers who consume alcohol or by viewing National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and International Association of Chief Police (IACP) approved videos to assess the subject’s impairment and record observations of SFST performance
