The training course discusses the importance of investigating “sexting” cases appropriately and how to handle them. Every department is faced with cases involving juveniles disseminating inappropriate photos of themselves and must be versed on how to handle the evidence and eradicate the photos from further distribution. Investigators must also be versed on the legal aspects of sexting and determine which photos are illegal and which are not. Furthermore, it is of utmost importance to have an understanding of how an inappropriate response can be detrimental to the department’s image and the civil liability a department could face if the matter is not handled appropriately.
