To attend this course you MUST have already attended the 8 HOUR BASIC PATROL RIFLE FAMILIARIZATION/QUALIFICATION COURSE.
This course will cover speed and tactical reloading, malfunction drills, and rapid engagement of single and multiple opponents. Firing positions: primary positions, secondary positions, and special positions. Proper utilization of cover and concealment will be stressed throughout the course, as will movement techniques.


   PART TIME POLICE OFFICER ACADEMY OFFERING

Southwestern Illinois Police Academy is accepting applications for entry into the part-time police academy for Session Sixteen.  Session Sixteen is a nine-month part-time Police Academy.

Effective July 1, 1999, The Training Board is charging tuition for the part time police officer academy.  The tuition for Mobile Team 14 (SILEC) is $1048.00.  The tuition must be made PAYABLE TO MOBILE TEAM 14 (SILEC) by Monday, June 23, 2008.   If tuition payment is not made, the part time officer will not be allowed into the part time police academy. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.  A Department can file for academy tuition reimbursement from the Training Board upon the part time officer completing the part time academy.
To request an application in the Part Time Police Officer Academy please contact Southwestern Police Academy at 222-5396.  The application and the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board’s (ILETSB) P.O.W.E.R. Test physical must be on file with the Police Academy before an officer can participate in the P.O.W.E.R. Test on Saturday, May 31, 2008.    The ILETSB’S P.O.W.E.R. test physical form is included with your application packet.  THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS!
After the Academy receives the part time officer’s application, the Academy will send the officer a letter indicating what he/she should bring to the P.O.W.E.R test and orientation.
THE NEXT PART-TIME POLICE ACADEMY (SESSION SEVENTEEN) WILL POWER TEST ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2008. ORIENTATION WILL BE ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 27, 2008.
PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO HAVE THE APPLICATION AND P.O.W.E.R test physical back to us by Tuesday, May 27, 2008.

INFO:This block of instruction is delivered in two parts.   It is designed to demonstrate to the shooter that in a close quarter deadly force confrontation they can effectively use their handgun accurately and effectively firing from one hand (strong and off-hand), the second phase introduces the shooter to the ballistic shield: its advantages, its disadvantages, moving with the shield, shooting from behind the shield, and basic tactics in ballistic shield use both solo shooter, and with team-mates.  
Equipment Required:  Duty weapon, duty (and/or tactical) holster, three magazines, 250 rounds of ammo, eye and ear protection, body armor required to be worn,  department approved ballistic shield (if your department does not have a shield one can be arranged for use).
Optional Equipment: Knee/elbow pads, ballistic helmet, gloves, and raid armor.

The Suburban Law Enforcement Academy (SLEA) is offering a two day, 16 hour training program for law enforcement personnel led by academy instructor, Hale Guyer.  The course will feature multi-media presentation and interactive/hands-on training.  Emphasis will be placed on various procedures used by persons who attack computer systems, data or infrastructure.
